This is what democracy looks like: Neil Puttick is selected as Macclesfield’s Parliamentary Candidate

On Wednesday 17th January, there was a meeting of 150 members to hear presentations from our three short listed candidates contesting the right to stand for the Macclesfield Constituency at the next General Election.

A Party United

All three candidates, Kevin Anderson, Neil Puttick and Imran Yousef gave an opening address of 5 minutes then spent 15 minutes answering questions set by members at the meeting. All three candidates acquitted themselves well which was much appreciated by the membership.

After the votes were counted, Neil Puttick was selected by the constituency. The Macclesfield Town Councillor and previous Labour Candidate, got almost 20,000 votes in the last election, which made Macclesfield a marginal constituency. We would like to put on record our thanks to all of the brilliant candidates, who all fought fantastic campaigns.

Lots of Interest now Macclesfield is a marginal seat

During his presentation, Neil Puttick, who received overwhelming support to be the Parliamentary Candidate said:

“Everyone in the area is tired of seeing the Conservatives playing this game of “There’s nothing we can do” whilst NHS services are cut, good jobs and investment leaves and Macclesfield experiences the worst fall in living standards since records began.

We stand for common sense, a Labour Party that lives in the area, that listens to the local people on real issues and takes action. We know what we stand for, we know how to win it, so let’s do it. In 2018, it’s time for a brighter politics in Macclesfield.”

Time to win is here now, says Neil

On winning, Neil said:

“It’s great to see so many people from across our constituency, Bollington, Disley, Macclesfield, Poynton sharing thoughts and questions to build the Labour Party we want.”

Neil will now stand against David Rutley, at the next election. Neil is involved with the Save Our NHS Demonstration on 3rd February in the Market Place, Macclesfield at 12.00pm and is currently touring the constituency finding out how we support the Millbrook Unit and Improved Mental Health Services in the area in 2018.
